I have been an artist, expressing my creativity in one medium or another, most all of my life. I have enjoyed detailed work in stained glass, woven rafia and pine needle baskets, painting in watercolor, drawing with Prismacolor pencils, and working in clay making functional ware for more than 10 years. As a young girl of 8, my mother sat beside me at her Singer tredle sewing machine, and patiently began teaching me simple clothing construction principles. In the following years, I made much of my own clothing, as well as all of my home decor items. I dabbled in quilting as a young adult, making very crudely designed quilts. I tucked my passion for working with textiles away for many years, until my children were grown and young adults on their own.

It was at this time, that I began yearning to bring my machine back out and to develop yet another way to express my need to create. Although I had not yet begun my work, I immediately knew it would be a blended combination of all of the skills I had developed working in the many other mediums earlier in my life with the incredible cotton fabrics available today. When I began experimenting myself, I did not quite realize art quilting was a defined and emerging area within the world of quilting. I simply termed my work 'landscape quilts.' I bought a pattern by McKenna Ryan and my passions found their calling. I knew this was the area in which I had been meant to express myselt - and all of my previous art had merely been a foundation to help me arrive at this destination for my new journey. Today, working with today's incredible pallet of breathtakingly beautiful all-cotton batiks and prints is nothing but pure joy. With the perfect combination and marriage of small pieces of fabric and threads, it's as if I am literally painting with my scissors, iron and Bernina machine. I have always loved the out-of-doors, and though growing up camping in the North Carolina mountains on family vacations, ultimately studied botany while in college. Most of my artistic expression over the years has been honoring my love of the out-of-doors and the beautiful wildflowers that grace the forests in the southeast. Art quilts offer many opportunities to continue my love affair with plants.
